Have you got any experience working with children, being part of a team and have a passion for reading? Then you may be interested in applying for the brand new role of Book Bus Librarian at our school.

Our school library is a converted coach that sits in our paddock area – you may have seen its transformation on the Channel 4 TV programme Tool Club. Whilst the children access the bus throughout the school day with their classes, we would also like to make it available to them during lunchtime. We have a number of children who enjoy reading during their lunch break and, as a school, we are constantly promoting the benefits of reading for pleasure.

For that reason, we are looking for an enthusiastic reader to join our team and open up the book bus during lunchtime. Duties would include organising the books, liaising with our “Reading Champions”, supervising the children on the bus and in the surrounding paddock area, talking to the children about the books they are reading and discussing alternative titles, to name a few. Above all, our children need a fun-loving and dedicated adult to enhance their enjoyment of reading.

This is a really rewarding post and is term-time only. The role is for 1 hour 15 minutes per day at lunchtime (between 12:15pm and 1:30pm).
We are happy to offer a high level of flexibility and welcome applications from people who are available to work as many or as few days per week as they wish. A job share or multiple appointments will be considered to ensure all lunchtime sessions are covered.

The salary is Grade 3 and the start date is as soon as possible.

If you think you are:
• Kind, caring, patient and calm
• Positive in your outlook with a ‘can do’ attitude
• A team player who wants to support children’s reading
• Flexible, able to use your initiative and work well as part of a team
…then we would like to hear from you!

In return we offer:
• A friendly and supportive team of staff
• Access to relevant training and professional development
• A happy and lively group of children

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and two appropriate references. St Augustine’s C of E (VA) Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
