Heltwate School is a 212-place special school in Peterborough for pupils aged 4 to 19 years old with a wide range of Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The school operated as one school across three separate sites within the city. At Heltwate School, we provide an inclusive and supportive environment where every learner is valued, encouraged to develop independence, and supported through an aspirational learning journey towards adulthood.
We are looking for a person who is dedicated to improving the life experiences and opportunities of children and young people with SEND, allowing pupils ‘to be the best they can be!’
You will be responsible for the day to day leadership and management of the St George’s site, ensuring ambitious, personalised provision and strong outcomes for all learners.
Key responsibilities include:
• Site leadership and operational management
• Statutory compliance at KS4, including curriculum, assessment,
accreditation and safeguarding
• Leadership of KS5 pathways, aligned to Preparation for Adulthood
outcomes
• Oversight and quality assurance of EHCPs, Annual Reviews and
transitions
• Leadership of careers education and Gatsby Benchmarks
We would like to hear from you if you:

meeting the needs of pupils.
● have successful experience of leading whole school initiatives.
● have knowledge and experience of teaching pupils with a wide
range of learning needs.
● have experience of planning, delivering and monitoring a
curriculum for pupils with diverse learning needs.
● have good organisational skills and interpersonal skills forming
positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff and
parents.
● have a clear and up to date knowledge and understanding of
relevant safeguarding legislation and the ability to promote a
culture of safeguarding across the school.
● can build positive and effective working relationships with other
professionals and stakeholders and can work as part of a team.
We can offer you:
● a supportive and friendly working environment in a school that
firmly holds its pupils at the heart of everything we do.
● excellent opportunities to develop your leadership skills.
● an exciting curriculum where creativity and real purposeful
learning is key.
● a supportive, experienced, and motivated staff team.
● friendly, dedicated and supportive staff, parents and governors.
● the opportunity to work strategically to develop your own
leadership skills with support from nationally recognised
organisations.
● on-going professional development opportunities for future
leaders.
