Ashbeach Primary School is seeking a caring, creative, and reflective EYFS / Year 1 Teacher to join our dedicated and supportive team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a mixed-age class, supporting children as they transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1.
About the Role
You will:
• Teach a mixed EYFS and Year 1 class, ensuring smooth progression and continuity of learning
• Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching that reflects both the EYFS Framework and Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations
• Provide a nurturing, inclusive learning environment that supports children’s social, emotional, and academic development
• Use effective assessment to inform planning and support individual needs
• Work closely with teaching assistants and colleagues to deliver cohesive provision
• Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers

EYFS / Year 1 Teacher – Ashbeach Primary School
Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Training
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or pending)
• Relevant degree or recognised teaching qualification
Experience and Knowledge
• Secure understanding of the EYFS Framework
• Knowledge of Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations, particularly Year 1
• Understanding of how to support children through the transition from EYFS to KS1
• Experience of effective assessment and using this to inform planning (including baseline and ongoing assessment and phonics)
Teaching and Learning
• Ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons that meet the needs of mixed-age classes
• Commitment to play-based and child-centred learning approaches
• High expectations for all pupils, including those with additional needs
• Ability to create a safe, stimulating and well-organised learning environment, including continuous provision
Personal Qualities
• Warm, patient, and nurturing approach with young children
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Reflective practitioner with a commitment to professional development
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable Criteria
• Experience teaching in an EYFS or EYFS/Year 1 mixed-age class
• Experience working with teaching assistants to support learning
• Knowledge of early phonics and early maths development
• Experience of working with parents and carers to support children’s learning
