Specialist SEND Teacher and Provision Lead

Southfields Primary School is looking for an exceptional Specialist SEND Teacher & Provision Lead to join our team and play a key role in the development of our new specialist SEND provision.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher with a genuine passion for SEND to join us at the beginning of an important new chapter for our school.

The successful candidate will be a class-based teacher, with responsibility for their own class within our specialist provision. Alongside providing high-quality, highly individualised teaching and learning, they will take on additional leadership responsibilities within the provision and work closely with our Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher/SENDCo to ensure that our vision is translated into exceptional everyday practice for children.

We are looking for someone who loves teaching, wants to remain close to children and classroom practice, and is excited by the opportunity to combine excellent specialist teaching with leadership responsibility.

Joining our new provision that is due to open in September 2027 offers something very different from stepping into an established role.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the provision from its earliest stages – helping to establish its culture, routines, learning environment and approaches to teaching and learning. Working alongside colleagues to create a provision where children feel safe, understood, valued and able to succeed.

We want our specialist provision to be ambitious for every child. We believe that SEND should never mean lowering expectations. Instead, we want to understand each child's individual starting point and provide the communication, relationships, regulation, adaptations and carefully structured learning they need to make meaningful progress.

About the role

As our Specialist SEND Teacher and Provision Lead, you will have responsibility for your own class and will plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality learning that is responsive to children's individual needs and EHCP outcomes.

Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will provide day-to-day leadership within the specialist provision, modelling excellent practice, supporting colleagues and helping to develop consistent approaches which enable children to flourish.

You will work collaboratively with the Deputy Headteacher/SENDCo, other teachers, support staff, families and external professionals. You will understand that successful specialist provision depends upon excellent teamwork and strong relationships with the children and families we serve.

We are looking for someone who:

• is an excellent and reflective classroom practitioner with high expectations for children with SEND;

• has strong knowledge and experience of working with children with significant and/or complex special educational needs;

• has particular expertise or experience in areas such as autism, communication and interaction needs and complex learning needs;

• understands how communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation and relationships can influence children's access to learning;

• can plan and deliver a highly differentiated and individualised curriculum while maintaining ambitious expectations;

• understands and can contribute effectively to the implementation and review of EHCP provision and outcomes;

• can lead by example, model excellent specialist practice and support the development of other adults;

• understands that behaviour is communication and approaches children with curiosity, consistency and compassion;

• values positive relationships with parents and carers and recognises their expertise in understanding their children;

• is enthusiastic about contributing to a new provision and is comfortable working collaboratively as it develops; and

• shares our commitment to creating an inclusive school in which every child experiences belonging, achievement and success.
